Our School Milk Scheme

Milk is provided in school through the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme

which is available to all of our pupils.

 At Cranmore Infants, we’re committed to supporting our pupils’ health, wellbeing and readiness to learn.

Milk plays an important role in helping children stay nourished and focused throughout the school day. However, under current rules, children lose access to free school milk when they turn five – meaning some pupils stop receiving milk partway through their Reception year. 

We’re supporting the Fair Milk for a Fair Start campaign, which is calling for a simple change so all children can receive free milk until the end of Reception.

 Did you know?

Children currently lose access to free school milk on their fifth  birthday. This means that within the same Reception class, some children continue receiving milk while others do not, simply because of when their birthday falls.

Milk plays an important role in helping children thrive at school.

It provides key nutrients such as calcium, protein and vitamins that support healthy growth strong teeth and bones, as well as supporting children’s concentration in the classroom.

For many pupils, having milk during the school day also helps them stay focused, settled and ready to learn.    That’s why we’re supporting the Fair Milk for a Fair Start campaign, which is calling for a simple change so all children  can receive free school milk until the end of their Reception year, rather than losing access when they turn five.

At the moment thanks to government subsidies, school milk is free for all under-fives and is subsidised at around £15 a term for children aged five or older.
