National Play Day 2026

National Play Week 2026 in the UK will run from Monday 29 June to Sunday 5 July, celebrating the power of storytelling and imaginative play.
Dates and Theme

National Play Week 2026, organized by the Early Years Alliance, will take place from 29 June to 5 July. This year’s theme focuses on storytelling as a springboard for play, highlighting how books and stories can inspire creativity, language development, emotional understanding, and curiosity in young children. The week encourages both families and early years providers to explore imaginative play through a variety of free resources, blogs, and virtual events eyalliance.org.ukeyalliance.org.uk.

How to Participate
  • For families and carers: Engage children in storytelling activities, encourage imaginative play at home, and explore creative ways to bring stories to life.
  • For early years providers: Utilize the free resources and virtual events offered by the Early Years Alliance to integrate storytelling into play sessions.
  • Sign-up: Both families and providers can register to join the week-long event through the Early Years Alliance website eyalliance.org.ukeyalliance.org.uk.
